Mission Statement

To provide and protect the integrity of the official repository for:

  • Real Estate Records (Deeds, Land Contracts, Mortgages, UCC Realty Related Filings, Plats, Certified Survey Maps, Federal Tax Liens, etc.)
  • Vital Records (Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce, Domestic Partnerships, Termination of Domestic Partnerships and Military Discharges)

To provide safe archival storage and convenient access to the public records.

To implement statutory changes, system modernization, program and procedure evaluation and staff development to assure a high level of timely service for our citizens and customers.


Public Access Information

Public Access Terminals are available for searching our real estate records in the Monroe County Register of Deeds Office, 202 South K Street, Rm #2, Sparta, WI 54656.  Public Access Terminals are available for use during normal office hours.

Land Records Online Search Programs

  • Laredo Anywhere  – For everyday users – Monthly subscription available.  Please contact our office if you would like to subscribe.

Older documents recorded after 1935 may be accessed through Laredo Anywhere by entering the volume, page and/or document number. Remote access is also available through Tapestry EON.  Older documents recorded after 1935 may also be accessed through Tapestry EON by entering the volume, page and/or document number.  **NEW!  All images in the Deeds, Misc and Tax Deeds volumes are now available in Tapestry EON and Laredo Anywhere**  All images in the Probate volumes are also available by searching by the volume and page number.

Legal descriptions are not indexed for documents recorded prior to 1971. Please refer to our Historical Real Estate Tract Index Books/COLORTRACT and search by legal description to access those documents through Laredo by entering the volume and page.


Veterans Community Outreach Program

The Monroe County Register of Deeds and Monroe County Veterans Service Office are excited to offer a program for our Veterans, known as Honor Rewards, to show our appreciation for those who served in the armed forces.

With Honor Rewards, Veterans can sign-up to receive an Honor Rewards card, which qualifies them for discounts, incentives, and other promotions at participating businesses in our community. To receive your Honor Rewards card, sign-up online at www.honorrewards.com or stop into the Monroe County Register of Deeds office.

We would like to offer all our local businesses the opportunity to participate in the Honor Rewards program. By participating, your business name will be listed on the Honor Rewards website for Monroe County and you will receive promotional materials to promote you as an Honor Rewards business member. STATEWIDE ISSUANCE

If you were born or married in the State of Wisconsin, you can obtain your birth and/or marriage certificate from any County Register of Deeds Office.  

Death certificates are available Statewide from 9/1/2013 to the present.  If the death occurred in Wisconsin prior to 9/1/2013, please contact the Register of Deeds Office where the decedent was a resident of or where the death occurred.  

You may print one of the Vital Record application forms below. Complete all parts of the form and mail to:

Please include the appropriate fee of $20 per record and $3 for each additional copy of the same record. Upon receipt of your request and payment, we will process and mail the record to you the same day.
