Monroe County Programs

Cost sharing is funding assistance to landowners found to be eligible for financial help to install conservation practices. Some common practices are:

• Grade Stabilization structures - used to protects areas from soil erosion and prevent the formation of gullies. 
• Streambank Restoration - used to protect streambanks from erosion by pulling the banks back and planting vegetation. Includes fish habitat in stream. 
• Manure Storage systems - a structure that stores manure, which increases available nutrients for crops and leads to savings on purchased fertilizer. 
• Manure Storage closures - the decommissioning of manure storage systems when not used anymore. 
• Wetland Scrapes - construction of shallow water areas to create or restore wildlife habitat. 
• Grassed Waterways - grassed water routes in crop fields that prevent gullies & reduce sediment loss.
• Roof Runoff Structures - reroutes water to avoid flooding and gullies from forming
• Riparian buffers - establishing/enhancing vegetation to provide wildlife habitat and reduce sediment, nutrients, and pollutants from entering surface water.
