Do you have knowledge of septic systems, soils, or land zoning ordinances and have an interest in their enforcement? If so, Monroe County’s Sanitation & Zoning Department might have the job for you. We’re hiring for a full-time Sanitation & Zoning Specialist. Successful candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in soil science, natural resources management, land use planning, geography, or another closely related field. One year of land use/zoning or sanitary ordinance enforcement related experience is desired. CST certification and POWTS inspector’s license must be obtained within first year of employment. A valid Wisconsin driver’s license is required. Candidates with an equivalent combination of training and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may also be considered.

Our Sanitation & Zoning Specialist provides uniform enforcement of private septic system and land use regulations. This includes the inspection of soil tests and septic system installations, review and issuance of sanitary permits and applicable administrative permits, monitoring compliance and investigating alleged violations of the Zoning, Shoreland, Floodplain, and Sanitation Utilities ordinances. This position is responsible for educating, explaining, and providing technical assistance to customers and stakeholders on code and ordinance requirements.

Starting salary for this position is $26.36 hourly based on experience and qualifications.
