Sheriff’s Office

The mission of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is to continually promote, preserve and deliver a feeling of safety, accountability and service to the County of Monroe.

Jail Information:

  • Visitation hours for Monroe County Jail inmates are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings 8 – 10 a.m. and Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings 6 – 9 p.m.
  • Inmates are allowed up to three thirty minute visits per week, one per day, depending on their classification status.  Visitors must schedule their visits (not less than 2 and no more than 14 calendar days) in advance of each scheduled visit to allow time for visitor approval.
  • Visitors must call to cancel a visit before the time the visit is scheduled to begin.  If a visitor is a “no show” they may lose their visitation privileges for up to 30 days.
  • No more than four visitors will be approved at one time.
  • No one under the age of 18 should be permitted to visit an inmate unless: He/she is the spouse of the inmate and provides proof of marriage and a valid photo ID or he/she is accompanied by their parent or guardian.
  • Any visitation may be limited or denied due to a court ordered no contact between the visitor and the inmate, vulgar or indecent actions, loud or disruptive behavior or visitors who are under the influence of alcohol or an illicit drug.
  • Former Monroe County Jail or prison inmates who have been out of custody for less than 30 days are not be permitted to visit an inmate.
  • Medication, money (no personal checks), and clothing for inmates may be dropped off at any time. Inmate clothing is limited to 3 white t-shirts, 3 pairs of white socks, 3 pairs of underwear, any color and females can have 3 bras, any color.
 The public entrance to the jail is on “K” Street on the Northwest side of the Justice Center. To set up a visit, contact the jail at 608-269-8759. The fax number for the jail is 608-269-2164.

Accident Requests

Accident reports can be requested by mailing a self addressed stamped envelope, along with your request, to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, 112 S. Court Street, Room 500, Sparta, Wisconsin 54656 and including the required fee. Typical reports are charged $1.00, however, additional reports or statements are charged $.25 per page. You may contact the Sheriff’s Office by telephone to confirm the cost. The number is 608-269-2117.  Accident Reports can also be forwarded via email free of charge and Incident Reports can be forwarded via email for $.25 per page.  Please email your request to sheriff.reports@co.monroe.wi.us. Lastly, or you may request accident reports directly from the WI Department of Transportation online at The DOT website.

Civil Process Fees

  • Civil Process requests can be made to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, 112 S. Court Street, Room 500, Sparta, Wisconsin. The fee for service is $40 for each attempt. An initial deposit of $120, cash, certified check or money order, is required.  With regard to Writ of Assistance (Eviction), a Bond of Indemnity is required.
