Effective Monday, June 1, 2020 at 8:00 a.m., the Administrative Center is open to the public with appointments encouraged. All visitors are encouraged to wear masks and social distance while conducting county business on site. We request that individuals call ahead to schedule appointments for genealogy research. Individuals that would like to search real estate records using our public computers are asked to schedule appointments with 1 ½ hour appointment slots being reserved. We encourage the public to continue to request vital records and copies of real estate document through our online services or by mailing application forms and fees. Please do not visit county facilities if you are displaying any symptoms of COVID-19, cough, fever, chills, sore throat, fatigue or body aches, difficulty breathing, loss of smell or taste, or you have recently been around anyone known to have or suspected of having COVID-19.

  • Real Estate Records  (Deeds, Land Contracts, Mortgages, UCC Realty Related Filings, Plats, Certified Survey Maps, Federal Tax Liens, etc.)
  • Vital Records (Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce, Domestic Partnerships, Termination of Domestic Partnerships and Military Discharges)

Public Access Information

Free Access to Real Estate Document Indexing Information

Due to concerns regarding COVID-19, Monroe County indexing information is being made available at this time free through this link. The free search option allows you to search by party name, document type and date recorded.   For best results, it is recommended that you enter a date range.  If additional search criteria is unknown, you may enter % as a party name. If you decide that you need to view the actual image of the record, then you must use the link for Online Access to Real Estate Records and pay the applicable fee.

Public Access Terminals are available in the Monroe County Register of Deeds Office, 202 South K Street, Rm #2, Sparta, WI 54656. Public Access Terminals are free of charge and are available for use during normal office hours.

Real Estate Records Access

There are currently two options available to access records on-line:

  • Tapestry – For occasional users.  Pay as you go with a credit card.
  • Laredo – For everyday users – Monthly subscription available.

NOTICE:  Please note that we have modernized our recording system and how the public may search and purchase documents online.  Please contact our office if you would like to subscribe to Laredo.  Older documents recorded after 1935 may be accessed through Laredo by entering the volume, page and/or document number.   Remote access is also available through Tapestry.  Older documents recorded after 1935 may be accessed through Tapestry by entering the document number.  See numerical list here to find document number.

Legal descriptions are not indexed for documents recorded prior to 1992. Please refer to our Real Estate Tract Index/COLORTRACT and search by legal description to access those documents.

Veterans Community Outreach Program

The Monroe County Register of Deeds and Monroe County Veterans Service Office is excited to offer a program for our Veterans, known as Honor Rewards, to show our appreciation for those who served in the armed forces.

With Honor Rewards, Veterans can sign-up to receive an Honor Rewards card, which qualifies them for discounts, incentives, and other promotions at participating businesses in our community.
