County Clerk

Welcome to the Monroe County Clerk’s Office Page

County Clerk Staff:
Shelley Bohl, County Clerk
Holly Rognholt, Deputy County Clerk
Susan Aney, Purchasing/License Clerk

Monroe County consists of two cities, twenty-four townships and eight villages. The Monroe County Board consists of twenty-four supervisors elected in their respective district. The Board of Supervisors directs the policy of Monroe County and monitors the fiscal matters of the County. In addition to the Monroe County Board, there are fourteen Board Committees that typically meet monthly and work with individual departments on developing policies. The monthly County Board meeting is held on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 6 PM. Committee meetings’ dates and times are available on the Committee tab of the Monroe County website.

The County Clerk Office serves as the ‘record keeper’ for county proceedings. Wisconsin State Statutes establish the position of the County Clerk and it is held by an individual that is elected by the public to a four year term. Wisconsin State Statutes also direct the duties and responsibilities of the County Clerk’s Office.

Primary duties performed in the Monroe County Clerk office include maintaining the proceedings of the Monroe County Board of Supervisors and support for County Board Committees. Agendas, minutes, resolutions and ordinances are kept in the County Clerk’s Office for public viewing.

The County Clerk’s Office also acts as a primary contact for the County elections and assists the local townships, village and cities with election materials.

Marriage Licenses and Domestic Partnership Licenses can be obtained in the Clerks office Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM. A checklist with materials needed to obtain a license is on our website and please feel free to contact our office with any questions you may have on the process to obtain a license.

Our page also includes a Directory of County Offices, elected officials for the Villages, Cities and Townships that make up Monroe County.
